Problem

Modern e-bike gearbox designs often require high power transfer with minimal noise and heat generation. During initial testing of a new motor design, the customer experienced problems with the electric motor generating temperatures exceeding 130°C. This customer needed a lubricant for the rotary motor gears that would lower temperatures to extend product life and ensure safety.

Solution

Dirt Revolution’s engineering team brought the necessary expertise and testing methods to determine the best grease type for high temperature use. DR’s team tested several different medium viscosity types of grease in a dry high temperature Utah desert test environment.

The chosen grease has excellent wide temperature performance of -25 to 145°C which kept the grease from oxidizing and evaporating during operation. Additionally, the winning grease was water resistant and engineered to handle harsh environmental conditions and high loads.

Outcome

The selected grease proved superior in all areas including durability and life-cycle requirements and was chosen to lubricate the gears in the customer’s motor gearbox.
